An enigmatic cell of cyber terrorists has launched a coordinated digital attack against the pro-tea party organization known as FreedomWorks.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the devastating cyber offensive hit FreedomWorks servers just as it kicked off a major fund raising drive spearheaded by conservative talk show host Glenn Beck.
The incident – which crippled the site – is estimated to have cost the group a hefty $80,000 before the servers were eventually brought back online.
FreedomWorks officials are investigating the incident, but have already accused political opponents (perhaps radical Dems?) of seeking to torpedo its formidable fund-raising efforts.
“We think the idea was to take our site down until after the election,” Kara Pally, web developer for FreedomWorks, told the WSJ.
“This was [very clearly] politically motivated.”
FreedomWorks spokesperson Adam Brandon agreed with Pally’s analysis of the attack.
“It’s like the tea party movement’s been hacked. To us, it’s no coincidence this happened the day our Beck ‘money bomb’ was announced.”
