Novelist and writer George Orwell was ahead of his time – not just with books like 1984 and Animal Farm, but in the way he wrote his diary.
He doesn’t waste words, and he also was intensely interested in the number of eggs his hens laid.
The Orwell Diaries, which you can find here, are synchronised to match the current day and month.
So his entry for 30 April 1939 simply reads: “14 eggs. Came to Greenwich”. April entries include details of the weather, what he’s doing in the garden, and the kind of birds he’s spotting as he counts his eggs and sows his seeds.
We wonder what he would have thought of Twitter. Picture courtesy of Wikipedia and his entry can be found right here.
