World goes iPhone crazy, says Apple

Cupertino, (CA) – Apple says it has sold over one million iPhone 3GS models in three days and that six million customers have downloaded the new iPhone 3.0 software since its release.

Let’s just hope the company isn’t giving away six million $30 vouchers to users unable to reactivate their phones after downloading the OS refresh.

“Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning,” says Apple CEO Steve Jobs. “With over 50,000 applications available from Apple’s revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever.”

Jobs obviously phoned his quote in as he isn’t actually back at work yet after surgery.

Six million upgrades in a few days is a very impressive statistic indeed considering even the most optimistic analysts were predicting a number somewhat closer to 600,000.

And a million new units shipped in a mere eight countries also compares extremely favorably with the same number for the previous model’s launch, which was spread across 22 countries, especially as analysts were saying 500,000 would be nearer the mark.

We feel sure that Apple has the audited numbers to back up its impressive claims.
