Will Android dominate the smartphone market?

Google’s Android operating system has managed to increase its smartphone market share by a respectable 5.2 percent in just three months.

But is Android’s rapid adoption by manufacturers and consumers alike enough to threaten Apple’s iPhone?

Well, according to ComScore, Android could realistically catch up to the iPhone by the end of the year as Apple’s smartphone market share has remained relatively flat (losing 01. percent) over the past three months.

Meanwhile, RIM’s BlackBerry continued to dominate the smartphone market with a 42.1 percent (subscriber) share, while Microsoft’s mobile OS declined by a staggering 4 percent.

Other top handset manufacturers in the US included Motorola (22.3 percent), LG (21.7), Samsung (21.4), Nokia (8.7) and RIM (8.2).
