LG’s 8.9-inch Optimus Pad – which runs Android Honeycomb – is powered by Nvidia’s dual-core (1 GHz) Tegra 2. The tablet also features a 3D-enabled camera and supports full HD 1080p decoding.
According to senior Nvidia VP Phil Carmack, the arrival of the Optimus Pad heralds nothing less than a paradigm shift in the world of computing.
“The world of computing is shifting under our feet,” said Carmack.
“Tablets are quickly taking their place as our most personal computer, providing previously unimagined capabilities and full mobility.”
Indeed, the Optimus Pad offers a 15:9 aspect ratio, 1280 x 768 WXGA resolution and is capable of running multiple apps simultaneously without lag or drag.
Additional specs include:
- Supports 3D TVs via HDMI output.
- Offers easy access to console-quality games via Nvidia’s Tegra Zone.
- Supports resolutions and apps specifically designed for tablets, such as Google eBooks, Google Maps and Google Talk.
- Measures 8.9-inch diagonally and 149.4-mm horizontally.
The LG Optimus Pad will begin shipping in local markets starting in March.
