Citizens of the Granite State are no strangers to sustainable living, nor to fine micro-brewed beer.
The Flying Goose Brew Pub and Grill in New London, New Hampshire, has combined these two traditions with the installation of twenty-five SunMaxx Plus-SU2 solar flat plate collectors, making it the first solar-powered brewery in the state.
The Flying Goose’s solar thermal system makes use of a non-pressurized 806-gallon tank to preheat water for the restaurant and brew cycles, as well as nearly 500 square feet of solar collectors mounted on the brewery’s dining room roof. The system was installed by installer Clean Resolutions.
Now that the water Flying Goose uses to brew its award-winning beers will be heated via the sun, the brewery has begun early-stage construction on a solar photovoltaic system as well. The system will be installed by groSolar.
This 126-panel array is slated for the area next to the brewery’s hops garden and is expected to cut the establishment’s electric bill in half, paying for itself in less than eight years.
