Sprint has just achieved a major milestone in its quest to make the entire country equipped with 4G, as New York City has finally received the high-speed mobile network.
In addition, a bunch of other cities have also gone live with high-speed mobile networks:
– Hartford, CT
– New Haven, CT
– New Brunswick, NJ
– Trenton, NJ
– Tampa, FL
Verizon and T-Mobile should both have similar high-speed mobile data access next year. AT&T is also working on a new 4G network but hasn’t talked much about its plans.
“Sprint is the first national wireless carrier to make 4G a reality for our customers, and with the addition of these six new markets we are now in 61 cities, including Chicago, Baltimore and Houston, and are growing,” said Sprint 4G president Matt Carter in a statement.
There are two phones that make use of Sprint 4G: the Epic 4G and the Evo 4G, both of which run on Android’s latest operating system, version 2.2.
Users can also buy special Sprint “Mi-Fi” devices, allowing them to tap into 4G data speeds from anywhere the network is available, on any electronic that has Wi-Fi access.
