Sony has debuted its ultra-thin Vaio X notebook line. The X series – which is housed in a lightweight carbon-fiber chassis – weighs 1.6 pounds and is just over a half-inch thin.
The notebook features a 16:9 aspect ratio, a scratch-resistant 11.1-inch LCD display (1366 x 768 resolution) and a 3.5 hour battery that can be upgraded to a 14 hour model.
“It’s one thing to make a notebook thin but when you consider the fact that the X Series also boasts industry-leading battery life and wireless WAN — you now have a game changer — altering the way people use and think about their PC,” said Vaio spokesperson Mike Abary.
Abary added that the Vaio X includes multi-touch functionality typically associated with touch-enabled smartphones.
“This means that you can zoom in and out, flip through pictures, rotate items clockwise and counterclockwise, and scroll vertically and horizontally without ever touching your mouse,” explained Abary.
The X series also supports 3G mobile broadband, Wi-Fi (802.11n), Bluetooth and real-time GPS functionality. Finally, the Vaio X replaces the spinning HD found in most computers with a SSD that offers quicker access to applications.
