When you think about it, there’s really no other person on the planet who deserves to receive the highly coveted designation. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg will be crowned Time magazine’s person of the year for 2010.
As the youngest self-made billionaire ever, Zuckerberg is the epitome of the American dream and also the epitome of the phrase “in the right place at the right time.”
He is currently number 35 on the list of the wealthiest Americans, which may sound pretty far down the list, but virtually all of the 34 entries above him are two or three times his age.
This year saw the release of the movie The Social Network, which was more or less a biopic of Zuckerberg. Not only is he a computer genius with a great deal of business acumen, and a lot of luck, but the actual personal story of Zuckerberg is fascinating as well. The Facebook saga is one of intrigue, drama, and backstabbing, as portrayed in the movie.
Zuckerberg also gained attention this year for contributing millions of dollars to the Newark public school system in New Jersey. It was the single largest individual donation to one school district in the history of the country.
Beating out Afghan president Hamid Karzai and Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, Mark Zuckerberg will be featured as the “Person of the Year” in the year-end edition of Time.
