HP has teamed up with headphone manufacturer Beats Electronics – founded by rapper and producer Dr. Dre and Interscope Geffen A&M Records chairman Jimmy Iovine – to develop a high-end notebook optimised for music.
“When Dre and I got together on Beats, it was about an idea which was to improve the transmission of sound between the record makers and the consumers,” said Iovine. “We realized that with the digital revolution, what went terribly wrong was the degradation of sound, which is the heartbeat of music. We found that most PCs downgrade sound to unacceptable levels and when you reduce it further to a limited platform, like an MP3, the music doesn’t stand a chance.”
The HP Envy 15 Beats limited edition notebook PC features a black, high-gloss finish. It includes the Beats Audio mixing software and Beats by Dr. Dre Studio High-Definition Headphones.
It also comes with Native Instruments’ Traktor LE software and Audio 2 DJ multichannel splitter, enabling seamless mixing through a PC. There are two stereo outputs plus an ultraloud output level.
Based around an Intel Core i7 mobile processor, it weighs 5.19 pounds and is just an inch thick. There’s a choice of two 15.6-inch HP BrightView high-resolution LED backlit displays, including the full high-definition LED HP Ultra BrightView widescreen display.
A Nightvision VGA webcam, optimized for low-light conditions, is standard. There’s an optional slim fit extended-life notebook battery, giving up to seven hours of battery life, and an external optical drive.
It’s expected to be available in the US on October 22, with a starting price of $2,299.
