Everybody loves Google

Google is one of the most popular companies in the US, according to a survey released today.

The company scored a massive 86 of a possible 100 on the American Customer Satisfaction Index, compared with 75 for the PC industry as a whole. Since the University of Michigan first included Google in its survey, back in 2002, Google has topped the rankings consistently, coming first in seven out of eight years.

It seems Americans like search tools, as the internet search and portals sector – made up of Google, Yahoo and Microsoft – scored 83. Yahoo’s search engine scored 77.

Because the survey was carried out earlier this year, Microsoft was evaluated on the basis of MSN rather than Bing, and scored 75.

Even so, with Google’s customer satisfaction levels so high, Microsoft is going to have a tough time knocing the company off its perch. According to ComScore, it had a market share of just 8.9 percent in July, compared with 64.7 percent for Google.

While Bing is showing a gradual improvement, it’s coming at the expense of Yahoo – Microsoft’s new search partner. The two have a combined score of 28.2.
