Samsung touts DualView cameras for narcissistic social networkers

San Francisco (CA) – Samsung has introduced a line of DualView cameras aimed at narcissistic social networkers. According to Samsung, the TL225, TL220 and CL65 will provide a “whole new approach” to personal photography.

“The growing popularity of social networking sites has given rise to the
self-portrait or profile picture with many consumers turning their
digital camera on themselves to become the subject of their photo,”
Samsung explained in a statement. “Delivering twice the fun of any other compact digital camera, Samsung DualView Cameras truly put the photographer in the picture. The [TL225 and TL220] cameras feature dual LCDs with one on the front of the camera and another one on the back.”

Indeed, both the TL225 and TL220 feature a smart gesture user interface (UI) with a built-in gravity sensor that can be activated with a simple tap on the front LCD. The camera is then automatically set to self portrait mode with smile detection, allowing bored social networkers to snap endless pictures of themselves.

Meanwhile, the high-end CL65 offers aspiring photographers a slew of technological goodies, including geo-tagging, Bluetooth 2.0, DLNA compatibility and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Other CL65 features include:

  • 12.2 mega-pixels
  • 5x Internal Optical Zoom
  • 3.5 inch wide 1,152,000-pixel touch-screen
  • Schneider-KREUZNACH lens
  • Movie mode – 720p HD / H.264 Format
  • Smart gesture UI
  • Advanced real dual image stabilization: optical IS + digital IS
  • Smart touch auto focus
  • Smart face recognition (up to 20 faces)
  • Perfect portrait system
  • Photo style selector

All three 12.2 mega-pixel cameras will be available in September 2009. The TL220 (3.0 inch wide 230,000-pixel touch-screen) is expected to retail at $300, while the TL225 (3.5 inch wide 1,152,000-pixel touch-screen) will have a $350 price point. Unsurprisingly, the CL65 is priced slightly higher at $400.
