Report: Next-gen iPod Touch to feature 5MP camera

Apple’s next-gen iPod Touch will reportedly feature an advanced, forward-facing 5MP camera capable of shooting HD video at 720p.

According to the UK-based Electric Pig, Apple will also add a flash to the camera, along with support for FaceTime calls over Wi-Fi.

In addition, the new iPod Touch is expected to include a redesigned accelerometer and gyroscope for a more precise gaming experience.

“John Lewis just spilled the new specs at its Xmas in July event in central London, saying it’s based them on ‘noises we’re hearing from suppliers,'” wrote Electric Pig’s Mic Wright.

“[Yes], this is all still speculation…But John Lewis is one of Britain’s biggest retailers so its sources are likely to be pretty savvy.”

Meanwhile, Jeff Gamet of Mac Observer noted iPod rumors have traditionally claimed that the “next version” of Apple’s Touch UI will include a new camera with improved features.

“So it’s no surprise to see the latest batch carry on with that tradition,” opined Gamet.

“The notion that an updated model will arrive in September, however, isn’t much of a reach because Apple has historically held an iPod refresh media event about that time of year.”
