Cyclists are often into renewable energy. It’s obviously something Nokia has noticed, which is why it’s launched a cellphone charger that draws its energy from the cyclist’s pedal power.
The Nokia Bicycle Charger Kit consists of a charger and dynamo, as well as a holder to secure the phone to the bike.
Once it’s all hooked up, the dynamo uses the movement of the wheels to charge the handset through the standard 2mm charging jack used in most Nokia mobile phones. The company doesn’t say just how far you need to cycle to power an average call.
“Now, with our innovative bike charger, people get even more freedom to use their Nokia without worrying about battery life. Bicycles are the most widespread means of transport in many markets around the world, so this is just one more benefit to be gained from an activity people are already doing,” says Nokia VP Alex Lambeek.
“This is a great solution to a real challenge, whether people will use it due to limited access to electricity, or to be more environmentally responsible.”
The kit will be available by the end of the year.There’s no word on whether price.
Nokia also launched four new low-cost mobile phones. The lowest-priced, the C1-00, starts at just Eur 30. It’ll ship early this fall. Three other models in the Cseries range, costing up to Eur 45, will follow by the end of the year.
