Motorola has released a short teaser video ahead of CES 2011 to hype its next-gen tablet.
The video offers a light-hearted look at the so-called “evolution” of tablets, including the 10 Commandments, Rosetta Stone and the GRiDPad.
As expected, the video is also critical of current gen-tablets, terming Apple’s wildly popular iPad little more than a “giant iPhone” and complaining that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab runs a mere “phone” version of Android.
The video has prompted a wave of speculation by analysts and journalists, some of whom believe that Motorola’s tablet will run Android Honeycomb – which Google specifically designed for tablets.
Another rumor cited and debunked by BetaNews hypothesizes that Motorola and Verizon are prepping a 10″ tablet to run on the latter’s FiOS network.
“The logic [here] is that Motorola makes set top boxes for Verizon’s FiOS service, and the tablet could serve as a related in-home communication tool,” explained Tim Conneally.
“[But] this rumor is based on an unsound premise, since Verizon and Verizon Wireless are not the same company. Verizon Communications is a US based telecommunications company, while Verizon Wireless is actually an international joint venture with Verizon Communications and Vodafone.” [[Motorola]]
