It doesn’t get any more official than this. Google has launched an official product page for the Nexus S, the successor to its widely-acclaimed-but-poor-selling Nexus One Android phone.
The Nexus One was noteworthy because it was the first and only phone that Google produced and manufactured itself. As such, it was heralded as being the best Android phone, since Google knew exactly how to optimizes its own operating system. But Google doesn’t have a lot of physical distribution channels so it sold mediocre at best.
The Nexus S will be handled by Samsung, but under the direction of Google. It will be the first to ship with Android 2.3, also known as “Gingerbread,” the latest version of Google’s OS.
In a blog post, Google wrote, “As part of the Nexus brand, Nexus S delivers what we call a “pure Google” experience: unlocked, unfiltered access to the best Google mobile services and the latest and greatest Android releases and updates.”

– 4-inch display
– 1 GHz Hummingbird processor
– 16 GB internal memory
– NFC short-range wireless technology
– Front and rear facing cameras

And good news! The Nexus S will be available very soon – December 16, to be exact, as a $200 phone (after new service activation). So you can still surprise an Android fan with this baby for the holidays.
