Saurabh Arora, head OEM sales and alliances, AMD Middle East and North Africa, told Gulf News that all the other defeats suffered by AMD at the hands of Intel were simply flesh wounds, even if they appeared to have lopped off limbs.
Advanced Micro Devices is geared up to take on Intel’s low-powered processors that run on certain Windows 8 devices later this year, he claimed.
Apparently this will be the year that AMD boosts its market share and brings peace in our lunchtime.
Arora said that Intel will be on the run as AMD will be launching one processor each in the first half and second half.
AMD will have a viable tablet chip out by end of 2013 or the beginning of 2014.
Arora admitted that AMD was way behind in the tablet space, but is entering the hybrid space.
Hybrid computers are ones which can be used as a tablet as well as a notebook with a docking station and Chimpzilla thinks that no one has seen it quietly move into this arena.
Arora noted that Intel’s ultrathin notebooks failed in the market because they were too expensive but hybrids could be cheap enough to attract attention.
He added that AMD’s next line-up will be on embedded chips on mobile phones. If that fails it could bleed all over Intel, we guess.
