It seems like uber-mini Android-powered computers are all the rage now, with the little devices turning up left and right in the wake of the Raspberry Pi launch.
VIA got into the act with its own Android-powered APC computer not long ago, but if you’re looking for something even smaller than those little bare-bones mainboard computers, the CX-01 might just be the device you want.
Eseentially, the CX-01 is a $48 mini PC with integrated WiFi that’s about the size of a large flash drive. It is powered by a Telechips TCC8920 ARM Cortex-A5 single core processor, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of storage space and runs Android 4.0.
The device – manufactured by Pandawill – is designed to plug directly into your TV via an HDMI adapter, allowing you to run Android apps and other content right on your TV screen.
The other side of the device offers easy access to a full-sized USB port for a mouse, keyboard, or remote control (there’s also an integrated micro USB port). There is no storage expansion slot, so be sure 4 GB is sufficient before buying.
In other Android mini-PC news, yet another device resembling a flash drive will be shipping soon. Dubbed the Z902 by Zero Devices, the bare-bones system is an updated version of the Z802 and runs Android 4.0. This particular iteration is equipped with a 1 GHz AllWinner A10 ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 4 GB of storage and 1 GB of RAM. Other features include a pair of micro USB ports, one full-sized USB port, HDMI and integrated Wi-Fi. Pricing is still unknown.
