ARM joins body with serial legs

Chip design company ARM has become a member of the SPMT (Serial Port Memory Technology)  Consortium as a promoter member.

It joins Hynix, LG Electronics, Samsung and Silicon Image and will help promote SPMT for broad market adoption as an industry standard.

SPMT allows for better brandwidth and scalability for DRAM used in mobile devices, giving a reduced pin count and lower power consumption.

“The consortium and its members are extremely pleased to have ARM, a company whose technology solutions are powering the majority of mobile devices today, join our organization,” said Jim Venable, the consortium’s president.

There’s an overview of SPMT technology at the consortium’s website, here.
