AMD readies notebook offensive

CPU firm Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is preparing to show off a new notebook set of designs at the forthcoming Computex show in Taipei, according to reports.

The Chinese language Commercial Times said that the set of components for the notebook platform called Tigris will include a 45 nanometer “Caspian” microprocessor, a 40 or 55 nanometre graphics chip, the M9X, and the RS880M chipsets.

According to the same report, AMD may also talk to delegates about a 45 nanometre quad core notbook chip, the Champlain, and a graphics chip codenamed Manhattan.

AMD has consistently lagged behind Intel in the popular notebook sector, and needs to up its game to offer a challenge to the chip giant.
