Rufus Cuff moves beyond the smartwatch

The Rufus Cuff boasts a 3-inch display and is fully capable of running Android apps from the Google Store.

The device is described as a fitness tracker, web browsing machine and a messaging tool. Plus, you can use it to make phone calls, so it could theoretically replace a smartphone.

Key specs include TI’s ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 16GB of storage WiFi, Bluetooth GPS, front-facing camera, motion sensors, speaker/mic, a 1000mAh rechargeable battery and Android 4.4 KitKat.

As Liliputing’s Brad Linder notes, the Rufus Cuff is designed out of the box for voice and video calls, web surfing, messaging and other basic Android functions.

“So while devices like the upcoming Moto 360 and LG G Watch with Android Wear are designed as Android phone companions, the Rufus Cuff could be an Android smartphone replacement,” he explained. “[That is], assuming you want a three-inch watch with a relatively slow processor and low-res display strapped to your wrist.”

The Rufus Cuff is currently seeking $250,000 in crowd-sourced funding via Indiegogo.
