MINIX is perhaps best known for cranking out uber-mini PCs and PCs-on-a-stick powered by ARM chips.
However, MINIX also offers up x86 boards and desktop computers equipped with x86 processors, such as the MINIX Mini HD. This small form-factor desktop PC is fitted with an Intel Atom D2550 dual-core Cedar Trail processor and carries a price tag of just $119.
However, as Liliputing’s Brad Linder notes, the system is actually rather bare bones, including only the CPU, system board, case and power supply. Meaning, you’ll need to supply your own memory, storage and operating system (OS).
“That said, you can pick up some cheap RAM and an inexpensive hard drive and
install a free operating system like Ubuntu and build yourself a full-fledged desktop PC for around $200,” he explained. “A Windows license would likely drive up the price.”
Additional key specs? Two Ethernet jacks, four USB 2.0 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, VGA and HDMI outputs, mic, line in and line out audio jacks, PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports, two SATA II connectors, a PCI Express slot and support for 5.1 channel audio. Oh, and yes, the system measures just 7.6″ x 7.3″ x 2.4″.
