SolidRun has introduced an upgraded version of its ARM-powered CuBox.
The Pro mini-PC is powered by an 800-megahertz ARM PJ4 processor (Marvell Armada 510 SoC) paired with two gigabytes of DDR3 memory.
Additional specs include two USB ports, HDMI output, optical SPDIF output, eSATA port, infrared receiver, micro USB port and a microSD card slot (4GB card included).
The CuBox Pro is also capable of displaying full high-definition video – running at 1080p – using just three watts of power. In addition, the device supports multiple flavors of Linux (such as Ubuntu or Debian), as well as Google Android.
The CuBox Pro can be used as a home media center, thin client XBMC console or even as a desktop computer.
The device – which measures two cubic inches and weighs just 3.2 ounces – is available at $140 for 1GB of RAM and $160 for the 2GB iteration. The latter version is expected to ship later this January.
Personally, I’d like to see future iterations of the CuBox equipped with a faster, more capable chip like Samsung’s Exynos 5 dual core ARM-based processor (Cortex-A15) which powers the company’s new Chromebook.
A CuBox loaded with a next-gen ARM processor would undoubtedly pack more of a punch, so here’s to hoping we don’t have to wait too long for the next the CuBox Pro 2.0.
