Hacker jailbreaks iPhone 3GS with blacksn0w crack

Hacker George Hotz has released a new crack that allows users to jailbreak Apple’s iPhone 3G and 3GS. ?Blacksn0w – which unlocks iPhone OS 3.1.2 and baseband 05.11.07 – was classified as a “tethered jailbreak” crack by AppleInsider.

Indeed, the patch reportedly requires a live USB connection (for certain models) before hardware resets can be performed.  ??According to TechTree,  ?Blacksn0w jailbreaks iPhone devices “faster” than other cracks. Once unlocked, the iPhone can be used with any mobile carrier.

“This may be the best iPhone users ever have it,” Hotz explained in an official blog post. “Be sure, if you have a 3GS or iPod Touch 3, to use Cydia’s ‘On File’ or Firmware Umbrella in order to be able to restore to 3.1.2 in the future. And as always, the baseband cannot be downgraded, so be *super* careful with updates if you need the unlock.”

As TG Daily previously reported, Club Cupertino has adopted a rather hardline position against jailbreaking. Indeed, the company recently stated that the popular practice “constituted copyright infringement” and violated the iPhone licensing agreement.

In addition, Apple insisted that the licensee is not the “owner” of his or her iPhone software and warned that modifying the OS could “cause serious problems in the operation” of the device.
