Green group lists the most radioactive phones

The Motorola Moto VU204 is the phone most likely to fry your brain.

Green lobbyist the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has released an online guide  to cellphone emissions, and ranked them according to their specific absorption rate (SAR) – an indication of how much radiation is absorbed by the body when the phone is in use.

According to the EWG, the VU204, T-Mobile myTouch 3G and Kyocera Jax S1300 hold the bottom three spots for safety, with the Blackberry Curve 8330 almost as likely to glow in the dark.

The safest phones are the Samsung Impression and Motorola Razr V8, with four more Samsung models following behind.

Of course, all this presupposes that cellphone radiation really is bad for you. But health agencies in Switzerland, Germany, Israel, France, the United Kingdom, and Finland have issued warnings to limit cell phone use, particularly by children.

“We would like to be able to say that cellphones are safe,” said Olga Naidenko, lead author of the study. “But we can’t. The most recent science, while not conclusive, raises serious issues about the cancer risk of cell phone use that must be addressed through further research.  In the meantime, consumers can take steps to reduce exposure.”

The EWG wants the FCC to tighten restrictions on emissions.
