Verizon has no plans to allow pre-orders for its newest Droid phone, but Best Buy has already opened up orders for the July 15 release of the device.
Customers can walk into a Best Buy store to reserve the Droid X for a $50 deposit. The phone will launch on July 15 for $200. Anyone who buys it from a Verizon retail store will have to pay $300 and wait for a $100 mail-in rebate.
Best Buy doesn’t deal with mail-in rebates anymore so customers there just pay $200 upfront.
The Droid X was unveiled earlier this week, and it boasts a 1 GHz Snapdraggon processor, 8 GB of built-in Flash memory, and a 4.3-inch screen.
It is Motorola’s successor to the popular Droid phone, which came out last year and ever since has been the second-best-selling phone in the US (behind, of course, the iPhone).
