AT&T users no longer need to feel jealous about the fact that Verizon’s iPhone will have the ability to be used as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. The original iPhone carrier has announced it is working on bringing the same functionality to its customers.
“We are working on bringing [Wi-Fi tethering] to the iPhone,” an AT&T spokesperson reportedly said.
Like Verizon, AT&T’s plan will offer customers a 2 GB monthly allowance to use their iPhone as a mobile hotspot, giving them Internet access on their laptops, iPads, Kindles, etc on the go. The service will cost an extra $20 per month. These are the exact same terms as Verizon’s feature.
It is becoming a standard feature for Verizon, as virtually all of its current Android phones offer the same functionality. Sprint and T-Mobile offer it as well, leaving AT&T as the only major carrier in the dark. In addition to bringing it to the iPhone, though, AT&T is also working on adding the functionality to its line of Android handsets.
The carrier will begin rolling out the feature on February 13, with the HTC Inspire 4G. It did not, however, provide a timeline for when the iPhone will become Moile Hotspot-equipped.
Meanwhile, Verizon iPhone pre-orders begin today for existing Verizon customers. Everyone else will be able to pre-order a Verizon iPhone on February 9, and the device actually goes on sale Februay 10. [[iPhone]]
