HP has debuted an Android-powered “convertible” tablet set to launch this August.
Dubbed the SlateBook x2, the tablet is loaded with Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). The device is powered by an Nvidia Tegra 4 quad-core processor, making HP one of the first industry heavyweights to introduce a tablet powered by Nvidia’s latest mobile silicon.
The starting price for the machine is $479.99, which includes a keyboard dock and10.1-inch screen set at a resolution of 1920 x 1200. As expected, the keyboard dock offers additional connectivity options, including a USB port and extra battery.
When the tablet and keyboard dock are combined, the dimensions of the computer weigh in at 11.2 x 8.4 x 0.8-inches and 3.1 pounds. Additional specs include 2 GB of RAM, stereo speakers, an SD card slot, USB port, HDMI out, 1080p rear camera and 720p front camera. The tablet also features integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with two color options available including white or silver.
Personally, I think this could prove to be an interesting device for Android enthusiasts looking to buy a tablet with a keyboard docking accessory. I also suspect the Tegra 4 will turn out to be one of the top-performing Android platform out there for the foreseeable future.
