Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 phablet measures in at 5.5 inches. However, the South Korean-based company is looking to go even bigger for the next iteration of the popular device.
Indeed, according to the Korea Times, Samsung is eyeing a 5.9-inch form factor for an upcoming handset, which is likely the Galaxy Note 3. The display will apparently utilize Samsung’s AMOLED tech, but it won’t be a YOUM flexible display, as the corporation currently lacks the tech to produce such screens en masse.
The Note-class smartphone – which launched in August 2012 – has helped blur the lines between handsets and tablets since rolling out this past summer. Samsung is undoubtedly working on a follow-up device, which will feature upgraded hardware, such as a faster processor, more RAM and additional storage space.
For reference, the Samsung Galaxy Note II features a 5.5″ (140.9mm) HD Super AMOLED display with a 16:9 screen ratio, HSPA Plus/4G LTE connectivity and 16GB-64GB of storage. The Android handset is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core Exynos processor and includes an 8 megapixel rear-facing and 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera with HD 1080p video-recording capabilities.
In related Samsung news, a number of purported Galaxy S IV screenshots tipped up earlier this morning, allegedly depicting a quad-core processor clocked at approximately 1.8GHz, a 1080p display a pixel density of 480 ppi and 13MP camera.
The Galaxy S IV is officially slated to debut March 14.
