Chinese electronics manufacturers have never been shy about copying the designs of industry heavyweights like Apple or Google.
The latest knockoff to cross our radar screens? The 7 Venus Android tablet by Ainol Novo.
As you can see in the image above, it looks and sounds quite a bit like Google’s Nexus 7 tablet. The biggest difference between the two devices? The processor, as the 7 Venus is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core ATM7029 processor, while the Nexus 7 tablet is equipped with a Tegra 3 processor.
Additional specs include a quad core GPU, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, and a seven-inch display set at a resolution of 1280 x 800. The 7 Venus also features a two-megapixel rear view camera and a 0.3-megapixel front camera.
Bluetooth and GPS support are conspicuously absent, although Ainol Novo offers a dongle for sale that can add both Bluetooth and GPS capability.
Frankly, the biggest draw of the tablet is probably its $140 price tag. Nevertheless, it isn’t cheap enough to make most people risk a knockoff no-name tablet purchase.
For just a tad more cash you can pick up a Kindle Fire HD, while the real Nexus 7 will cost you somewhere around $200 for starters. So yes, the extra $60 is probably money well spent for the majority of mobile users out there.
