Razer has been designing tricked-out gaming keyboards, mice and headsets for quite some time now.
Last year, the company started talking up a new project named Project Fiona, which is essentially a portable gaming tablet with actual physical controls.
Interestingly, Project Fiona seems to have morphed into the Razer Edge, which carries a (starting) price tag of $999 and is described as a tablet, PC as well as a console.
“When we decided to design a tablet from the ground up, we did it to create a phenomenal experience for mobile gamers. By combining the best of PC and console gaming with Windows 8, we’ve created a true gaming tablet,” explained Razer co-founder Min-Liang Tan.
“Clearly, the critical acclaim and community support the Razer Edge has enjoyed suggests we hit the mark. Now, we get to celebrate the reality of what was formerly a dream with the audience for which this groundbreaking tablet was made.”
The Edge will be available in two versions – the standard Razer Edge and the Edge Pro model. The base version is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor paired with Nvidia GT 640M LE graphics, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.
Meanwhile, the upgraded Pro is equipped with an Intel Core i7 processor, the same Nvidia GPU, 8 GB of RAM, and a 128 GB or 256 GB SSD. The Pro version will also be offered in bundled packages that includes the Gamepad Controller.
The Edge supporst four dedicated configurations including tablet, keyboard dock, gamepad controller, and docking station. Additional specs? Windows 8, three USB 2.0 ports, HDMI 1.4 output and a 10.1-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1366 x 768.
