Over the last several months, we’ve seen a number of smartphone prototypes with a low power E-Ink display on one side and a traditional LCD on the other.
Equipping a smartphone with two very different display types will give you the best of both worlds with an exceptionally power miserly screen for reading content and a colorful LCD capable of rendering video.
Back in August, we talked a bit about a similar dual-screen smartphone in development over at E Ink. Recently, a photograph of a very similar device surfaced from a Russian-based company known as Yota Devices. Although the YotaPhone has no branding or launch date just yet, the company behind the phone says it will indeed be brought to market
Unsurprisingly, the phone runs Google’s Android OS is equipped with a Gorilla Glass that covers a 4.3-inch 720 x 1280 resolution LCD display. The back of the phone has a 200 dpi E Ink display of the same size.
The prototype device is powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor paired with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. Additional specs include LTE connectivity, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and a 720p resolution front camera.
Despite having dual screens, the phone is said to be less than 10 mm thick and weighs about 140 g. Launch date? Tentatively Q3 of 2013 on Russian mobile networks.
