Now that it is under the Google umbrella, Motorola Mobility is apologizing for its lack of Ice Cream Sandwich updates.
The updated version of Android, officially known as Android 4.0, has made its way to a number of devices but to those who own a product still running version 2.3, it doesn’t matter. Case in point – the Droid Bionic, which Motorola originally promised to update to ICS in the third quarter of 2012. However, there has been no mention of the update in months.
After the Google acquisition, Punit Soni became the new vice president of products as Motorola Mobility, and he went on Google+ recently to engage in a conversation with users to see how he could improve things at the company.
The Ice Cream Sandwich issue is one that resonated the most with users.
“I think you guys have gotten a raw deal and we could do way better. But you are one of the top few things I worry about when I look at Upgrade,” he said.
“I am not going to throw out the argument ‘we just got here.’ We are taking responsibility for this. And we will engage with you, listen carefully to your concerns and most importantly, try to FIX things. I genuinely do feel the pain of folks here. And we really do want to change things,” he continued.
The frank dialogue and admission of faults is refreshing to see, and hopefully it is a sign that Google’s new ownership will lead to more reliable products from Motorola.
