This is the lightest Android tablet ever made

NTT DoCoMo has launched what appears to be the lightest Android tablet ever made.

Indeed, the NEC Medias Tab UL N08-D weighs in at a remarkable 249 g, which is 8.783 ounces or approximately half a pound.

So how does the Medias Tab – which measures a mere 7.9 mm (profile) – stack up against the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7 in terms of weight?

Well, Amazon’s tablet weighs approximately 400 g (14.109 ounces), while the Nexus 7 is a somewhat slimmer 345 g (12.169).

As Simon Sage of AndroidCentral notes, the NEC Medias Tab UL is manufactured out of a carbon fiber that is typically used in modern aircraft construction.

The Medias Tab also boasts some pretty sweet specs, including a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 7-inch 1280 x 800 LCD display, 8 megapixel Exmore R back-lit camera, plus a secondary 2 megapixel front shooter.

The device runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and features a web browser that allows users to actively view two tabs at the same time, along with an “HD haptics” vibration feedback mechanism that is applied to on-screen elements.

Unfortunately, it isn’t clear if the device will ever be available outside of Japan, but an Android fanboi can always hope, right?
