Quad-core Optimus G gets a launch date

The Snapdragon-powered Optimus G smartphone will reportedly be unveiled on September 19th at a joint Qualcomm-LG event in New York City.

Although LG has yet to officially confirm all the specs, the highly- anticipated handset is widely expected to be powered by a quad-core Snapdragon chip and feature a 768×1280 True HD IPS display, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 13MP camera and Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

Of course, one can only hope a Jelly Bean update will go live (relatively) shortly after launch.

“LG has a lot of ground to make up after a disappointing streak as of late, and they feel like the Optimus G will be the device to turn the tide,” explained Phandroid’s Quentyn Kennemer.

”[Yes], the specs sound like they promise to turn the tech world upside down, but it’ll be the device’s build quality and software that should determine whether or not LG is on the right path.”

In other Android related news, Motorola’s Droid RAZR M is hitting Verizon stores today at a $99 price point (with contract and after mail-in rebate).

The smartphone boasts a 4.3-inch edge-to-edge Super AMOLED Advance display,
1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, microSD card slot, 8MP rear shooter, NFC, Android 4.0.x and LTE.

As Cameron Summerson of Android Police notes, the Droid RAZR M marks a new high for “budget” devices, as the handset only costs $99 with a two-year agreement.

“Similarly-priced handsets are going to have a hard time keeping up with the RAZR M, considering Motorola’s outstanding build quality and the promise of Jelly Bean before year’s end,” he added.
