Welcome to the first major Motorola announcement since the merger with Google.
Today, the company held an event in New York City that was as much about touting the Android platform and the evolution of the mobile industry as it was to show off Motorola’s newest devices.
Motorola Mobility CEO Dennis Woodside proclaimed, “The new Motorola starts today.” He also claimed that one-third of all 4G devices are Motorola devices.
Woodside called current battery life problems a “terrible” consumer experience, so creating a strong battery was pivotal for the new devices. The Razr HD has a 2500 MaH battery, which boasts 16 hours of talk time. The Droid Razr Maxx HD is even more impressive, with up to 21 hours of talk time (and 27 hours of music streaming or 10 hours of video streaming).
But the real change is the integration with various Google products. All devices come pre-loaded with Chrome, making them the first mobile devices ever to do so.
The Droid Razr HD is more about the display, which has around 70% more pixels and greater color saturation than the iPhone 4S. It has a dual-core processor and runs on 4G LTE.
With Chrome, browsing is up to 40% faster than an iPhone 4S running Safari.
Finally, the Razr M is all about making the most out of the phone’s size. It has almost no edges around the display. It also has 8 GB of storage, 1 GB of RAM, and a 2000 mAh battery. It is set for a $99 after-contract price point and will be available next week. Pre-orders go live at 5:00 PM Eastern Time tonight. The other phones will be out by the end of the year.
Woodside also promised that all the revealed devices will have Jelly Bean by the end of the year.
Google’s Eric Schmidt also spouted off the latest Android statistics. There are now 1.3 million Android activations every day, 70,000 of which are tablets.
In total, Android has an installed base of more than 480 million. Schmidt said that in the few years since Android first launched, it has become an “ecosystem of a size I never expected.”
