Sony is continuing its simplistic naming convention when it comes to the Xperia brand of smartphones.
The company might run out of letter before too long, but for now it has introduced the Xperia J, the Xperia T, and the Xperia V.
The Xperia J is the low end of the new models, with a 4-inch display and a 5-megapixel camera. It has a 1 GHz processor, but little enhance functionality beyond that.
The Xperia T has a 4.6-inch display with high-definition resolution, and a whopping 13-megapixel camera. With a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and 4G LTE connectivity, this is the highest-end of the new phones introduced today. It also sports near field communication (NFC) technology, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Sony promises to offer an upgrade to version 4.1 (Jelly Bean) shortly after launch.
And finally, the Xperia V has the same processor as the T, but only a 4.3-inch display. Aside from that, most of the specs are identical, except it does not have NFC functionality. Sony is also promoting Android 4.1 as an available upgrade for the V as well.
The Xperia S was the flagship phone for Sony Mobile Communications, which was developed after Sony bought out Ericsson’s stake in its previous joint venture. With Sony Ericsson now becoming Sony Mobile, there is a lot more inter-departmental communication that will make future Sony phones more compatible with other Sony devices.
There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the different letters in the product names.
