CA-Fi launched an Android in-car infotainment system dubbed the 620800 back in 2011 – with one major drawback.
The system featured a resistive touch display, requiring hard presses or the use of a stylus to select icons. Fortunately, the company is back with an update – CA-Fi 621000 – which boasts a capacitive touchscreen similar to those used in modern smartphones and tablets.
The new in-car infotainment system runs Android 2.3 and is powered by a 1 GHz processor with 512 MB of RAM.
The system also features an upgraded and improved user interface, along with support for OBD2 connectivity (all cars built from 2000 and on have an OBD2 port).
The port, which is typically located under the steering wheel, captures trouble codes from the engine and can be connected to the 621000 via a special cable.
The CA-Fi 621000 is also preloaded with a customized version of the Android app known as Torque. The 621000 is a double din system capable of supporting DVD and CD playback, GPS navigation, hands-free calling, music streaming, Internet connectivity, rearview camera, steering wheel controls, and other AV input output expandability.
The device will be up for pre-order at the end of July and is slated to ship at the end of August for a cool $999.
