Siri rigged to override "best smartphone" question

If you have an iPhone 4S, go ahead and ask Siri what the best smartphone is.

Does she provide you with a quantifiable answer based on customer reviews or does she made some sort of cute comment about the iPhone 4S?

Assuming that you’re living in the world of today and not in the past, the answer you should have is the latter. But that’s only because Apple rigged Siri to answer that way.

It became something of a blogosphere sensation when someone figured out if you asked Siri what the best smartphone is, she would tell you that it’s the Nokia Lumia 900.

That was based on a quantifiable survey of customer reviews on the Internet, which actually pegged the Lumia 900, powered by Windows Phone, at a perfect 5-star rating.

Of course, the Lumia 900 hasn’t sold as many units as other smartphones, so just by logical reasoning it is easier for it to get the perfect review.

But that’s beside the point. After that story spread around like wildfire, it appears that Apple went in and changed Siri’s algorithm to rig it so that it would tell the user, in its own cute way, that the iPhone 4S is the best.

Not surprisingly, Nokia isn’t happy. A spokesperson was quoted by the Sydney Morning Herald as saying, “Apple position Siri as the intelligent system that’s there to help, but clearly if they don’t like the answer, they override the software.”

In other words, Siri has finally gained that human attribute that Apple loves so much – arrogance. Can you blame her?
