Samsung debuts Galaxy Xcover rugged smartphone

Take out your phone right now. If there’s a scratch on it, this latest Samsung creation may be for you.

Yes, if you’re like me, and your cell phone insurance dropped you because you had to replace your phone too many times, the Galaxy Xcover is exactly what the doctor ordered.

It may not be the most technologically advanced phone, but it is completely airtight. That means that it is resistant to water damage as well as damage caused by dirt and other contaminants.

The display is reinforced with an anti-scratch solution made from tempered glass. Samsung claims it is around five times tougher than regular glass.

It can withstand water pressure up to a depth of one meter, and can last submerged for up to 30 minutes without sustaining damage.

“The Galaxy Xcover sports a strong airtight chassis and gorilla glass, making this smartphone resistant to dust and water damage without compromising on the design,” said Samsung’s Gary Twohig.

The Xcover only comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, making it a bit outdated. It also only has a 3-megapixel camera. So it’s not a powerhouse under the hood, but the hood itself is pretty impressive.

Right now the phone has only been introduced to the Ireland market, but hopefully it will make its way overseas soon.
