Chinese man is Apple’s 25 billionth app downloader

You couldn’t have asked for anything more symbolic to represent Apple’s recent growth.

The Apple user who happened to have that one-in-a-million (technically, one in 25 billion) stroke of luck is Chunli Fu of Qingado, China. The milestone-marking user is the perfect representation of how much Apple has expanded.

That’s because Apple’s most recent expansion is into the Chinese market. The company has opened up new Apple Store locations and only recently began offering its newest versions of the iPhone and iPad.

In a county where the population is measured with 10 figures, that expansion is huge. Apple, however, didn’t specifically mention the connection between the App Store growth and the Chinese market.

Instead, Apple SVP Eddy Cue made a generic statement saying, “We’d like to thank our customers and developers for helping us achieve this historic milestone of 25 billion apps downloaded.”

“When we launched the App Store less than four years ago, we never imagined that mobile apps would become the phenomenon they have, or that developers would create such an incredible selection of apps for iOS users,” he continued.

The app that Fu downloaded was the free version of Where’s My Water, a puzzle game that tries to capture the same kind of cute, intoxicating gameplay as Angry Birds or Cut the Rope.

The total number of registered iPhones and iPads is now somewhere in the range of 315 million.
