If you want the latest entry in what has become a powerful brand partnership between Motorola and Verizon, it’s available now.
The Droid 4 has gone up for sale at Verizon Store locations across the country. It’s priced at around $200 for customers who sign up for a new two-year service agreement.
The device has something that most people thought was destined for obsolescence – a physical keyboard. Just like its Droid ancestor, the Droid 4 has full slide-out Qwerty keypad, for those who still can’t quite used to the idea of typing on a touch-screen.
Aside from that, it has a 5-inch qHD display, a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 4G LTE support, and all the standard microUSB/microSD/etc connections that have become standard for smartphones.
The brand that has become synonymous with Android, “Droid” has become a killer trademark for Verizon. However, the carrier began to let it slip when other phones like the Thunderbolt started to gain traction.
Now, however, the Droid Razr is making waves, and Motorola’s new tablet is called the Droid Xyboard. The Droid 4, with its notable similarity to the original Droid, is obviously an attempt to cash in on that name power that it still has.
To many customers (who don’t fully understand the mobile landscape), the choice isn’t between an iPhone and an Android phone, it’s between an iPhone and “a Droid.” For that reason alone, the Droid 4 should be destined for greatness.
