AT&T, the first major carrier in the US to stop offering unlimited data will soon start charging even more for its mobile network.
The carrier has announced new pricing for its tiered data packages, which will increase by $5 across the board.
Under the new pricing structure, AT&T’s most basic 300 MB/month plan will cost users $20 per month. It currently stands at $15.
Meanwhile, the 2 GB plan will go from $25 to $30 while 5 GB of data will cost users $50 instead of $45 per month.
“Customers are using more data than ever before. Our new plans are driven by this increasing demand in a highly competitive environment, and continue to deliver a great value to customers, especially as we continue our 4G LTE deployment,” said AT&T chief marketing officer David Christopher.
The new rates will be put in place as of January 22.
Of course, anyone who already has an existing AT&T subscription will be grandfathered in at their current rate and will not be subjected to the new prices.
In addition to the standard monthly fees for smartphones, AT&T’s new pricing structure for tablets includes a 3 GB plan at $30 per month and a 5 GB plan at $50 per month, which mirror the phone rates.
