HTC has issued a statement about how it plans to go forward with upgrading its devices to the newest version of Android, known as Ice Cream Sandwich.
“Since Google unveiled Ice Cream Sandwich earlier this week, HTC has been looking closely at the new OS’s features and functionality to determine our upgrade plans,” the company wrote in its statement.
It is taking a careful, measured approach to the new platform before announcing any crazy upgrade plans. Last time it did that, it ended up being unable to deliver on what it promised.
It obviously does not want that to happen again. The statement cautiously continues, “Upgrades require a careful balance of hardware and software to ensure the best possible performance and usability, so please stay tuned as we assess our product portfolio.”
Nevertheless, HTC is one of the biggest names in the Android environment and it wants to be on the leading edge of everything that happens.
As such, “Our goal is to upgrade as many HTC devices as possible and we’ll be sharing details on specific devices and timing in the coming weeks,” the company confirmed.
Ice Cream Sandwich is one of the biggest updates for Android yet, with a sweeping change to the user interface and the way it handles processes like apps, music, and Internet access.
So clearly everyone is excited about it, but HTC has learned that it needs to temper that excitement.
