Texas Instruments sees phone-on-chip by year's end

Texas Instruments, the world’s largest maker of cell phone chips, on Monday said it will unveil digital radio technology it says will allow it to combine multiple cellular phone functions into one digital chip by the end of this year. The integrated chip would allow for a 50 percent reduction in power consumption and use of board space inside the phone, the company said.
