Trailer released for Justice League: Doom

Warner Premier has released its official trailer for Justice League: Doom, the next animated film for the DC superhero franchise.

This film is significant, partly because it was the last one penned by popular DC writer Dwayne McDuffie before his death in February. It’s an adaptation of the graphic novel JLA: Tower of Babel by Mark Waid.

The story concerns the theft of Batman’s secret files, in which he had carefully noted the weaknesses of each of his teammates on the Justice League, along with the best way to use those weaknesses against them, should he ever need to fight his allies.

Ra’s al Ghul – the villain who steals the files – subsequently disables the super hero team. He then proceeds to attack mankind by building a tower, which interferes with the ability of people to understand each other’s speech. Meanwhile, Batman is distracted trying to recover the bodies of his parents, which have been stolen.

The tale, of course, also deals with the familiar themes of teamwork, trust, betrayal, and communication.

The original graphic novel sold well, and received high praise from critics.

The movie, executive produced by Bruce Timm, and directed by Lauren Montgomery, stars Tim Daly (Private Practice, Wings) as Superman, and Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly) as Green Lantern.

Justice League voice actors Kevin Conroy, Susan Eisenberg, Carl Lumbly, and Michael Rosenbaum will reprise their roles as Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter and The Flash. Bumper Robinson (The Game) rounds out the league as Cyborg (a new member who was not seen in Tower of Babel.

Phil Morris (Seinfeld, Mission: Impossible) leads the Legion of Doom as Vandal Savage, and is joined by Olivia d’Abo (The Wonder Years) as Star Sapphire, Alexis Denisoff (Angel) as Mirror Master, Carlos Alazraqui (Reno 911) as Bane, Paul Blackthorne (The Dresden Files) as Metallo, and Claudia Black (Farscape, Stargate SG-1) as The Cheetah.

Justice League: Doom will arrive on DVD in the spring of 2012.
