It’s well known at this point that all of the current Marvel film properties are building up to the Avenger’s film next spring. What may be surprising is how much is planned for afterward.
In an interview with the Disney Fan Club – Disney purchased Marvel a few years back – Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, Marvel’s film division, revealed that after the heroes come together for a grand adventure in next year’s Avengers, it may be more than just the core three members who get more films.
It had already been announced that both Thor and Captain America will get additional films post-Avengers, and one could probably have guessed that Iron Man would get the same treatment.
We might not have been so sure about Black Widow, Hawkeye, or Nick Fury, but this comment could make one think that these properties will not be wasted:
“Thor will go off into a new adventure, and Captain America will continue to explore the modern world in another film of his own,” says Feige.
“We hope that holds true for the characters appearing in that film – Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the spy organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. – all of whom are more than worthy and capable of carrying their own films. And, we’ve got a lot of other characters we’re prepping and getting ready for film debuts: the world of martial arts, these great cosmic space fantasies, Dr. Strange, and the magic side of the Marvel Universe. There are many, many stories to be mined.”
A new take on Dr. Strange which fits into the new Marvel film universe could be particularly interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with that, as he is one of the more intriguing Marvel characters.
It seems like we’ve got a lot of Marvel films to look forward to, all with intertwined canon. I’ve been primarily a DC Comics guy for my whole life, but after the mistakes DC’s been making lately with their properties, and sheer awesomeness Marvel has been bringing to the screen lately, I might have to switch allegiances.
