There’s a lot of people who wouldn’t recognize Tom Hardy on the street because in his best known role, he was covered by a mask that looked like the facehugger in Alien. Yes, the man who played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, who will also be the new Mad Max this year in Fury Road. Just don’t expect him in any more romantic comedies.
As Hardy told The Hollywood Reporter, starring in the movie This Means War was “miserable,” and he essentially out of the rom-com business. “I love to do things I hadn’t done before,” he said. “I didn’t understand how you could do something which is so much fun and be so miserable doing it.” While he loved trying new experiences as an actor, he was definitely out of his depth with War, feeling “other,” as he put it.
Maybe Hardy will try to be a romantic lead again some time. It wasn’t all his fault War wasn’t a good experience. After all, McG is one of the worst directors in Hollywood, and he could turn anything into sh*t. Then again, maybe we like Hardy best when he’s a post apocalyptic warrior, or beating down Batman.
