Rod Serling’s timeless classic – The Twilight Zone – is heading back to the silver screen with a new twist.
Warner Bros. has reportedly chosen Matt Reeves to direct the latest version of the Zone, a Jason Rothenberg-scripted thriller based on the beloved Serling TV series.
As you may recall, the last Twilight Zone flick was an anthology helmed by a number of different directors.
However, according to Mike Fleming of Deadline, the upcoming film will be a “big science fiction movie” with a single freestanding story linked to the original series.
Oh, and yes, the new movie will also have that “familiarly” eerie feel which characterized the original TV series.
Negotiations between Warner and Reeves are slated to kick off next week, with the studio hoping to clinch the deal ASAP and shift the picture into production by next summer.
Here’s to hoping Reeves can pull it off, because the director, who previously helmed Let Me In and Cloverfield, is already attached to several major projects that are likely to keep him busy for a while.
These include This Dark Endeavor (revisionist Frankenstein tale), The Passage for Fox 2000 (Justin Cronin vampire novel) and 8 O’Clock in the Morning, a Ray Nelson short story about a man who awakes to find aliens in control of society.
The Twilight Zone will be produced by Appian Way partners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran, along with Michael Ireland.
