Video: Mysterious Alien goes viral

An enigmatic video directed by Filmmaker Neill Blomkamp of District 9 fame has been released into the wilds of the Internet.

The short clip – which was discovered in Wired’s iPad magazine – depicts two men in a car who discover what appears to be a dead alien (or man-made mutant?) lying in a shallow ditch alongside a country road.

The horrifying creature is stamped with the phrase “18.12 AGM Heartland Pat Pend USA” and, not unsurprisingly, “US Inspected And Approved.”

So, what is the disturbing video about?

Is it related to a film project, perhaps the sequel to District 9?

Well, no word about a D9 sequel, although Blomkamp is reportedly hard at work on another sci-fi flick known as Elysium.

Still, it seems quite unlikely that the YouTube clip has anything to do with either D9 or the elusive Elysium.

To be sure, as Monika Bartyzel of Cinematical notes, “AGM Heartland” has already been trademarked by Sable Productions Ltd and labeled as:

“Entertainment services by way of an online website with video, audio and textual content and images featuring characters and storylines about a fictional genetic engineering company that produces genetically engineered and altered organisms.”

Not much to go on, I know.

Yet, one can always hope that this cool short teaser will be followed by an official trailer for a full-length feature film.
